PDFING NEWSLETTER NO 9 - 4th December 2003 ========================================== Finally PDFing V3 is ready for release! You can download a "windows install file" from http://www.pdfing.com/down/pdfing.msi or as zip-files from http://www.pdfing.com/down This has been a very busy year for us and we regret that the re-organisation of our web-site, though long overdue, is only just underway. We hope, in time, to make it easier to use and better looking as well. For the same reason the documentation of the new Excel ouput feature is far from complete. However we have performed heavy "beta" testing of this function and it is ready for use. This feature depends on a "little" programming language: http://www.luasheet.com In this issue: -------------- PDFing V3 Upgrading from V2 to V3 Luasheet Future features PDFing V3 --------- The following new features appear in V3: Use "user-defined-data" to address spooled-files. Improved processing for *AFPDS spooled-files. Improved processing for *USERASCII spooled-files. Embedded scripting language for controlling PDFing. Convert spooled-files to excel spread-sheets. Improved GUI. Improved NT Service controller. Authentication for ESMTP mail servers. PDF encryption for all spooled-files. Notification of errors via email. Additional "Default Markup" edit-boxes. Option to create folders at run-time Option to change file-extension for ASCII text output Option to omit form-feed from ASCII text output. Option to save files to disk and attach to emails. Option to add an extra email recipient. Merge PCL macros with "transformed" spooled-files. Option to use page-size specified in a spooled-file. We believe that V3 will now be generally more stable and faster than any previous version. You can find out more at http://www.pdfing.com/v3changes.html Customers without NT Service license-codes will be able to use some features in "demo" mode. The excluded features are Excel and PDF encryption. Luasheet -------- PDFing now includes "Luasheet". This language is used to describe what text is selected from a spooled-file and where it inserted in the work-sheet. For convenience, we have produced an "add-in" for Excel which allows you to edit & test your Luasheet programs within Excel. You can download a "windows install file" from http://www.pdfing.com/down/luasheet.msi Upgrading from version 2 to version 3 ------------------------------------- If you install PDFing version 3 into a new directory there are some steps to perform: Copy your existing PDFing.ini to the V3 directory. If present, copy your existing \Res\Ebcdic.txt. Change the target of any shortcuts to PDFing. If you want to run PDFing as an NT Service program from the new directory, you will need to un-install the previous version and then install the new version. Please make sure you have your license-codes handy. You can ask us to re-send them, if they are lost. Future features ---------------------- We have had many requests for printing output PDF files automatically, FAX function, merging multiple PDF files into one PDF. We are always pleased to listen to your ideas and suggestions, you can see the results in the list of new features in V3, so please keep the ideas comming! Regards David Fowle and Jane Hearn
